After reading the YHL book about 5 times through, I’ve started to focus in on the areas that I could easily (and cheaply- if that’s a word) transform our apartment into the rustic, earthy tones I love. One area is specifically the decorative objects I lack. It’s hard for me to reason spending money on something that does not serve a purpose other than simply to be pretty. So when I stumbled across this incredibly easy and cheap West Elm knock-off DIY project, I pounced on it. The two embroidery hoops cost a whopping $2.20 and the stain came in under $5 making this project around $7 (side note: I actually had stain and could have made this project for less than $3 but a girl needs variety with her woods, amiright??). Once I popped out the inner-hoops and fiddled around with how the final sphere would look (pre-stain) I decided they stuck together pretty well and I liked it without the tacks (plus I didn’t have any laying around). I love the final product! Such an easy way to dress up the YHL book on our windowsill.

This turned out adorable! I’ve thought about making one of these and even went so far as buying the thingy-ma-boppers at a thrift store but noooo…they sit in my craft cabinet to this day. Yours turned out really great!
Thank you, Sherry! I hope you pull those out of the cabinet to give it a try soon!
This is so cool! I see the embroidery hoops at garage sales all the time! I am totally buying them to make this. Great job!
Thanks so much!
